Alhiser-Comer Mortuary is looking for a full-time Funeral Home Manager to join its team. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and supervising the general activities of the funeral home. Qualified candidates must hold a current funeral director and embalmer license with 3-5 years of industry experience. We offer a competitive benefits package including Medical, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct day to day activities relating to funeral services- preparation of funeral home facilities, supervision of funeral directors, as well as meet with families.
  • Direct and supervise the administrative and support services of the funeral home- embalming services, repair and maintenance services, approve of expenditures for operation of the funeral home and collection of receivables.
  • Financial Management of location – managing expenses and profits
  • Plan and implement strategies to increase the client base for the company- including direct involvement in marketing strategies.
  • Administer all of the work schedules of the personnel of the funeral home.
  • Deal directly with vendors of funeral service supplies and support merchandise.
  • Maintain and enforce knowledge of the laws and policies relating to the funeral business.
  • May be required to perform embalming’s, meet with families, oversee services, and other tasks as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Education and/or Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in the operations of a Funeral Home. (preferred)
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Must be a licensed funeral director and embalmer or the ability to obtain a state license.

The individual must possess these skills and abilities or explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some combination of skills and abilities.

  • Ability to train, monitor and supervisor Funeral staff.

  • Spanish speaking is preferred but not required.

Job Qualifications:

  • Proficient in body preparations & casketing with an eye for detail.
  • Schedule and coordinate funerals, burials, and cremations in a timely manner.
  • The physical ability for occasional lifting, pushing and pulling with assistance, of objects up to approximately 400 pounds.
  • Works on-call in rotation as assigned i.e. phone, face to face, at the hospital, hospice or residence.
  • Initial transfers of deceased, embalms, dresses, cosmetology, caskets and prepares deceased following instructions from the family.
  • Develop methods to collect funds at the time of arrangement conference. Maintain financial records, order merchandise and prepare accounts.
  • Assist with displaying flower arrangements and plants.
  • Respectful and safe handling of office equipment, autos, and physical building.
  • Direct preparations and shipment of human remains for out-of-state burial.
  • Discuss and negotiate funerals with clients and keep accurate records of pre-funded used arrangements.
