Michael Hegg, Second Career Scholarship Winner

DEERFIELD, ILL. — January 4, 2017— Selected Independent Funeral Homes’ Educational Trust has announced three new recipients of the Second-Career Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 each. The winners are Brandy Carter of Garden City, MI; Michael Hegg of Indianapolis, IN and Karoline Davidson of Chandler, AZ. This scholarship was created to meet the educational needs of the increasing number of second-career professionals entering independent funeral service seeking positions as funeral directors and future leaders.

Michael Hegg, a full-time student at the Ivy Tech Community College School of Mortuary Science, expects to graduate in May 2017. Hegg served as a uniformed patrol officer for the Indianapolis Police Department for 27 years and retired in October 2015. During his years of service, he was awarded several honors including “Police Officer of the Year,” “Medal of Valor,” and the “Purple Heart Medal.”

“I am very honored to be a recipient of the Second-Career Scholarship,” said Hegg.
