Karoline Davidson Second Career Scholarship Winner

DEERFIELD, ILL. — January 4, 2017— Selected Independent Funeral Homes’ Educational Trust has announced three new recipients of the Second-Career Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 each. The winners are Brandy Carter of Garden City, MI; Michael Hegg of Indianapolis, IN and Karoline Davidson of Chandler, AZ. This scholarship was created to meet the educational needs of the increasing number of second-career professionals entering independent funeral service seeking positions as funeral directors and future leaders.

Karoline Davidson attends Chandler-Gilbert Community College’s Mortuary Science Program and expects to graduate in May 2017. She is currently employed at Selected member firm Bunker Family Funerals & Cremation in Mesa, AZ. Davidson’s previous career in TV journalism and served as a general assignment reporter for 12 years. After leaving the news business, she turned to work with the elderly, serving as a home care companion and volunteering at hospice.

“I specifically sought out Bunker Family Funerals because I wanted to work for a small family-owned and operated funeral home. It is a perfect fit for me,” said Davidson. “My goal is to make sure families I serve feel relief, support and comfort. As a funeral director, I aspire to tell people’s stories and help families heal.”
