Sales Manager – Westchester County, NY

The Ballard-Durand Funeral Group is seeking a Sales Manager for our Westchester County locations. The Sales Manager plays an essential role in generating revenue and securing future market share for the funeral homes providing leadership for the funeral directors and support staff who assist families with both at‐need and pre‐need arrangements. The Sales Manager is a recruiter, trainer, motivator, manager, and coach. This position is essential in providing direction and motivation to individuals to achieve goals and objectives.

Overview & Responsibilities

  • To recruit new sales advisors and screens to ensure that qualified candidates are hired when the need arises.
  • Train and reinforce training to staff and provide coaching to ensure that all team members meet/exceed customer service standards.
  • Provide positive feedback, reinforcement and recognize/celebrate good performance.
  • Constructively manage team member performance, including making progressive discipline and termination recommendations when necessary; Manage absenteeism, leave and pay issues in conjunction with oversight from the Location Leader and owner.
  • Act as the team’s expert reference regarding the interment conference, aftercare process, prospecting methods, appointment schedule, product knowledge, dine & learn community presentations, closing skills, prices, terms, paperwork, sales guideline questions, compliance issues and the delivery of customer service.
  • Resolve employee issues in a timely and satisfactory manner.
  • Conduct weekly sales meetings and daily reviews regarding prospecting activity and sales results.
  • Conducts “one‐on‐one” coaching sessions weekly with each team member to review performance and to improve upon particular selling or organizational skills.
  • Foster a sense of team and a work environment where employees work effectively together positively and engaged.
  • Accompany sales advisors in the field to observe and coach the sales advisors and to demonstrate how to conduct an aftercare visit, how to ask for referrals, how to give an effective pre‐need presentation and how to overcome objections and close.
  • Schedule family service advisor’s office days and distribute leads.
  • Help funeral directors coordinate and deliver group seminars.
  • Review sales presentations and other sales tools used by team members to ensure compliance.
  • Partner with location leader and owner to ensure that sales, operations and administrative teams work well together for the benefit of the customer and the company.
  • Drive at‐need and pre‐need sales and averages while developing strong customer relationships.
  • Consistently and actively build at‐need and pre‐need volume to ensure that the sales plan is met within budgeted selling expenses.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the market and the competitive landscape; Develop niche markets based on geography, demographics, ethnicity or religion.
  • Ensure all customer service standards are met or exceeded, including the opportunity to purchase the full suite of products we offer. Every family should receive an entire location tour and be introduced to all staff.
  • Track performance and key metrics, such as lead generation, hold rate, close rate, pre-need/at-need ratios, etc.
  • Participate in community events designed to develop prospects and heighten awareness of the firm.
  • Track all leads, enter in database on a timely basis and monitor lead generation advertising to ensure that it is producing the desired results.
  • Ensure that all families who have had a death receive an aftercare visit, preferably in their home.
  • Ensures all sales-related administrative functions are completed in an accurate manner as outlined in Company policies/procedures.
  • Review all contracts to ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Complete, review, and submit all reports on a timely basis.
  • Approve all discounts offered within established parameters.
  • Develop sales incentives with Manager of Sales Programs, as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates extensive operations and industry knowledge in the servicing of customers.
  • Ensure that all aspects of services provided are done to Company standards.
  • Ensure all company operational procedures and policies are followed.
  • Handle customer/family situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ensure all visitors to the location are greeted warmly and professionally and are treated as valued customers.
  • Identify areas for continuous improvement, productivity and cost reductions.
  • Other duties as directed by management

Requirements & Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of successful sales management experience preferably with a specific focus on sales team support and multi-unit operations. The successful candidate will be a hands-on manager with the energy and drive progress and operate from a solutions mindset.
  • Extensive understanding of pre-need marketing with the Funeral Profession, including the use of insurance products for funding. Licensed to sell insurance in at least one of the states in which FPG operates funeral homes is preferred.
  • A track record of success working with geographically dispersed groups of sales team members and service location managers, combined with a proven ability to raise and achieve new standards of performance.
  • Ability to influence thinking and drive results in partnership with field leaders
  • Track record of excellent follow-through for sales team support.
  • Experience with the use of technology for communication.

  • Supervises/assists in funeral services by supervising the parking of cars; ushering; driving funeral vehicles; assisting at chapel and church services; assisting at the cemetery; delivering of flowers, caskets, urn, photos and other personal keepsakes or mementos of client families; setting up and removal of chairs, and; participating at special functions

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a dual degree training program at an accredited mortuary college or technical school specializing in funeral and mortuary science as required by state/province law and as prescribed by each state board

Experience

  • Embalmer, Apprentice or Funeral Director, Apprentice as required by state/provincial law
  • 2 years directly related experience preferred

Certification/Licenses

  • Must meet all licensing requirements in applicable state/province as required by law and as prescribed by each state board
  • Current state/province issued driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of religious and fraternal organizations customs.
  • Knowledge of computers and some software including MS Office products required
  • High level of compassion and integrity

Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer, Erlanger, KY

Linnemann Funeral Homes and Cremation Center is seeking a Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer to provide the highest quality, professional and efficient funeral services to its client families. This position reports to the  Director of Funeral Service Operations.

Major Duties

  1. Direct funerals, perform embalming’s, make at-need and pre-need arrangements, prepare for visitations/funerals, work visitations/funerals and escort funerals.
  2. On-call rotation (one night a week and every other weekend)
  3. Willing to work on nights off and weekends off when we are busy.
  4. Be knowledgeable of all programs, services and amenities offered by the funeral home
  5. Use appropriate communication skills with family members, visitors, and clergy.
  6. Greet visitors and family; introduces them to the appropriate staff during visitations.
  7. Remain visible and available at all times during services and visitations
  8. Greet visitors, determine the purpose of their visit, respond accordingly by directing escorting them to the appropriate room as time and circumstances allow.
  9. Check with client family members during visitation to ensure all are satisfied
  10. Maintain the register book, prayer cards, and memorial supplies.
  11. Participate in the direction and/or delivery of ceremonies and services as needed
  12. Monitor parking lot activities during services; assist with funeral processions.
  13. Maintain complete confidentiality, perpetually, concerning any information, circumstances, or facts regarding the deceased or client family.
  14. Complies with all applicable federal, state and local regulations
  15. Complies with all Company polices, procedures and safety measures.
  16. Presents (attire) and conducts himself/herself in a professional and respectable manner.

Other Duties

  1. Perform routine ground/building maintenance and snow removal
  2. Assist in cleaning funeral home, running errands, and washing cars
  3. Completes all training sessions required by the management of LFH.
  4. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Funeral Service Operations or the Owners.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Funeral Directors/Embalmers License
  • Experience: >2 years
  • Physical: Lift and Carry > 75lbs
  • Pay: Negotiable
