Qualifications

  • Graduated from an accredited school or college of mortuary science

Funeral Director Responsibilities

  • Client Consultation: Meet with grieving families to discuss funeral arrangements, understand their preferences, and provide guidance on available services.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Prepare and file all necessary legal documents, including death certificates and permits, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Coordination of Services: Arrange and coordinate funeral services, viewings, cremations, and burials according to the wishes of the deceased and their families.
  • Embalming and Preparation: Fulfillment of embalming and any necessary body preparation activities. Must ensure that all procedures are conducted with the utmost care and in compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Casket and Urn Selection: Assist families in choosing appropriate caskets, urns, and other funeral merchandise, providing information on pricing and options.
  • Transportation Arrangements: Coordinate the transportation of the deceased from the place of death to the funeral home and to the final resting place.
  • Support Services: Offer emotional support and guidance to grieving families, providing resources for grief counseling and other support services.
  • Funeral Home Maintenance: Ensure the cleanliness and proper maintenance of the funeral home facilities, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Attendance at daily morning staff meetings

Essential Functions

  • Analyze a family’s needs and desires to create a comprehensive plan with services to complement those needs and desires.
  • Guide families through the range of available burial opportunities such as location selection, opening and closing of location, marker, vault, urn or casket selections, product ordering and all other funeral and burial arrangements.
  • Oversee funerals and all aspects of plans and services to ensure they fulfill the family’s needs while remaining compliant with all policies, regulations and laws.
  • Coordinate and supervise the event coordinators as well as third-party providers to effectively implement the desired plans and services.
  • Exercise independent judgement and discretion to handle problems arising in planning and during services efficiently and effectively.
  • Follow up with families to provide aftercare services.  During follow up meeting  request feedback and customer satisfaction, support families with referrals to grief counseling services, and investigate further wishes regarding funeral planning.
  • Collaborate with the Family Care Provider team to accomplish Fairmount’s goals and strategic initiatives.
  • Complete records and administrative processes timely to maintain Family Care Provider team’s goal of providing excellent customer service.
  • Prospect and identify new business opportunities to help maintain annual sales quotas
  • Train other employees on Family Care Provider services and best practices.  This may include explaining goals and policies or procedures to other Family Care Providers.
  • To maximize earning potential, obtain and maintain Resident Producer Life Insurance License
  • Maintain a courteous and professional manner with customer needs.
  • Assist other departments when needed with customer questions and inquiries.
  • Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Purpose: The position of Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer exists in this organization to provide the highest quality, professional, and efficient funeral services to the client families served by the Linnemann Funeral Homes.

Reports to: Director of Funeral Service Operations.

Major Duties

  1. Direct funerals, perform embalming’s, make at-need and pre-need arrangements, prepare for visitations/funerals, work visitations/funerals and escort funerals.
  2. On-call rotation (one night a week and every other weekend)
  3. Willing to work on nights off and weekends off when we are busy.
  4. Be knowledgeable of all programs, services and amenities offered by the funeral home

  7. Remain visible and available at all times during services and visitations
  8. Greet visitors, determine the purpose of their visit, respond accordingly by directing escorting them to the appropriate room as time and circumstances allow.
  9. Check with client family members during visitation to ensure all are satisfied
  10. Maintain the register book, prayer cards, and memorial supplies.
  11. Participate in the direction and/or delivery of ceremonies and services as needed
  12. Monitor parking lot activities during services; assist with funeral processions.
