About the Trust
The Selected Independent Funeral Homes Educational Trust provides support to the entire independent funeral home profession. We are dedicated to funding the development and administration of scholarships, research initiatives, educational programs and other assistance offerings to promote life-long learning for all who work within, and in support of, independent funeral service.
Although there are several publicly-held funeral corporations in existence, the overwhelming majority of funeral homes operating today continue to be independently owned and operated – many within the same family for generations. These firms spend countless hours each year serving the needs of families in their communities. But who is there to help them when they need it? It is our desire to be that source of assistance.
The Educational Trust is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) Charitable Organization as recognized by the IRS and as a corporation of the District of Columbia with its principle office in Lincolnshire, Illinois. The Trust is governed by a Board of Trustees in partnership with Selected Independent Funeral Homes, a professional association representing selected independently owned and operated funeral homes. The Educational Trust was established by Selected Independent Funeral Homes in 1982, but membership in Selected is not required to obtain assistance or provide a donation.
