The successful candidate should be able to perform various tasks to arrange and direct funeral services, such as:
- Coordinating transportation of decedent to facility.
- Meeting and maintaining positive communications with the family, or other authorized person, to arrange details.
- Communicating effectively with coworkers and applicable outside organizations, Health Department, Medical Examiner’s Offices, Hospitals, etc.
- On-call telephone rotation after hours
- Handling financial payments for services.
- Light cleaning duties in the office including but not limited to keeping the facility stocked with materials, vacuuming, emptying trash cans, dusting, and other tasks required to maintain a neat and orderly facility.
- Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient computer and technology skills to assist in administrative needs is required

- Complete records and administrative processes timely to maintain Family Care Provider team’s goal of providing excellent customer service.
- Prospect and identify new business opportunities to help maintain annual sales quotas
- Train other employees on Family Care Provider services and best practices. This may include explaining goals and policies or procedures to other Family Care Providers.
- To maximize earning potential, obtain and maintain Resident Producer Life Insurance License

Job Responsibilities
- Cares for deceased in a respectful manner while performing a variety of tasks which including but not limited to the following: verifying identification and embalming authorization; performing restorations; completing removals and transfers; dressing, styling hair and or applying cosmetics, and; any other preparation required for human remains
- Adheres to all applicable professional, municipal, state/provincial and federal licensing authority regulations
- Assists with maintenance of preparation room and the facility
- Cleans soiled equipment and hazardous material spills
- Ensures hazardous materials and spills are handled in accordance with the Material Data Safety Sheets
- Assists with chemical and supply inventory
- Receives caskets and other funeral home supplies
- Promotes a safe work environment by being aware of and practicing universal precautions and adopting general principles of safe conduct
- Assists in the office and on services
- Performs other responsibilities and tasks as assigned
- Meet with At-Need families in a professional, organized and caring manner
- Making arrangements and performing administrative duties, including preparing documents, processing reports, answering phones, and performing other tasks as assigned
- Work viewings, visitations, memorial services, funerals and graveside services
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduation from accredited mortuary college or other degree as required by state/province law
- Embalmer, Apprentice experience as required by state/provincial law
- Two years of experience in a 200-call minimum/year funeral firm embalming facility preferred
- Must meet all licensing requirements in applicable state/province as required by law and as prescribed by each state board
- Current state/province issued driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to lift over 75 pounds
- Knowledge of computers and some software including MS Office products required
- High level of compassion and integrity
- Good communication skills

Job Type: Full-time, in-person
Responsibilities
- Work Monday thru Friday and every other weekend
- Be on call overnight on a scheduled rotation
- Transfer decedents from place of death to the funeral home
- Meet with families and arrange funeral services and final disposition
- Conduct funeral services and ceremonies
- Help mentor funeral director apprentices and funeral hospitality associates
- Work as a team to provide excellent service

Requirements
- Valid Wisconsin funeral director license – preferred
- Funeral director apprentice license – required

- Ability to reliably commute or plan to relocate to Janesville, WI, before starting work is required.

- Experience funeral directing – minimum 1 year preferred
Pay: $55,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year with opportunities for supplemental, bonus pay

Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes is looking for a Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer to join the organization.
Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience and will be responsible for the following:
- Arranges, coordinates, and directs funerals and memorial ceremonies.
- Embalm deceased individuals to the highest standards.
- Meets and surpasses the needs and expectations of the many families we serve in the upstate.
- Maintains active involvement within the community and is committed to building and creating effective relationships and rapport.
The successful candidate must have the following:
- South Carolina Funeral Director License (Required) and South Carolina Embalmer License (Preferred).
- Displays proven, superior arrangement, directing and embalming skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team.
- Excellent diligence and consistent level of accuracy.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; verbal, written and presentation.
- Demonstrates strong customer service skills with the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable learning and utilizing industry software.
- Exemplifies organization’s values of integrity, respect, compassion, professionalism, innovation and overall excellence.
- Excellent knowledge of funeral home procedures and business practices.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Desire to continuously improve oneself via literature, professional educational seminars, extensive training, etc.
- A valid driver’s license is a mandatory requirement for this position with a clean driving record.
- Ability to do home/hospital/nursing home body transfers. Able to lift 100+ pound body weight with assistance from mortuary associate.
